Excerpts From The Calendar
January 2020 – Carnival Processions 1920s and 2000
“Calendars and dates, seasons and weather, all mark time for us, giving us a framework for memories, leading to commemeration and celbration.”
March 2020 – Methley Hall and its many Chimneys
“The number of chimneys was a sign of wealth and in the Hearth Tax assessment of 1672, Methley Hall along with some outbuildings was assessed at 43. Chimneys need cleaning and the receipt (left) records ‘two climbing chimneys’ being cleaned for 5 shillings each.”
June 2020 – Village Institute
“Last year we saw the demise of this well-loved building on Main Street. The photo above must have been taken shortly after it was built by Lord Mexborough as a village institute.”
November 2020 – Wartime Friendships
“There have been lots of war commemerations these past few years and this year marks 75 years since WW2 ended. These photos remind us of how important wartime friendships were.”
